I wanted to take a moment to update everyone on Whitefield Public School's status as of 1/11/22. As of today, we had the following number of absences: 29 students (13.7%) and 2 staff members. Of the 29 students at least 4 were not health related absences. The majority of the 25 other absent students were due to possible COVID self-quarantine, exposure, or related symptoms. We have had 3 positive cases in the school to date (I expect that number to rise relatively to the number of those getting tested. The more who test, the more positive cases.). Typically, when absences reach around 22% we start to evaluate whether or not classes can continue in a reasonable manner. Since our numbers are still low, and the majority of our staff are present and accounted for, we will continue classes IN PERSON until further notice. Please be advised that this can change drastically in a 24 hour period. We will do everything we can ensure student and staff safety during this time, and will continue to monitor our numbers closely. With that being said, if anyone has a student that is sick or showing symptoms of any kind please feel free to keep them home. We are trained and able to deliver lessons in a variety of ways. No one wants to go the virtual route, but if it is in the best interest of the students, staff, and community then it is no doubt the correct call. Until we reach that point we will forge ahead in person. Thanks for your understanding and if there are any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to ask or call the school. Let's take care of ourselves and each other, and we will all get through this together. Scott Shepherd, Superintendent Whitefield School
